Social Media Marketing & Your Audience

Social Media Marketing & Your Audience

Statistics show that 4.48 billion people use social media in 2021. This means that over 50% of the world’s population hangs out on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. That’s a mind-boggling discovery in social media statistics

“What’s in a number,” you ask? Thank your lucky stars that so many people are using social media. Social channels allow you to market your products and services smoothly.

There is one catch, though.

Unless you are Cristiano Ronaldo, not all those 4.48 billion social media users care about your business. Neither are all of them your customers. For a successful social media marketing strategy, you will have to understand who your target audience is.

What Is a Target Audience Anyway?

Simply put, a target audience is a group of people who could benefit from your services—in other words, they are people you want to appeal to. Answering the question “who is my target audience?” will help you create perfect ad copies and strike a chord with your customers. In fact, the only way to convert your social media followers is to define your target audience. If you fail to do so, you would be selling a baby rattle to a 16-year-old single teen!

Identifying a target audience is based on demographics. You would have to thoroughly examine your customers, including their age, gender, education, location, income, job title, buying habits, and so on.

How to Find Your Target Audience?

Now that you know the importance of defining a target audience, let’s dive in to understand the steps to identify the same.

1. Identify the platforms your target audience uses the most.

There are many popular social media channels that people spend their time on. A clever social media marketing tactic would be to identify the particular platform your customers are using. After all, there is no point selling your product on Instagram if your customers are hanging out on Facebook. Therefore, get to know which platform your customers love the most.

2. Create buyer personas.

A buyer persona is a [relatively] accurate description of a fictional person representing your ideal customer. It will help you understand what your customer looks like. To create a perfect buyer persona, be extremely specific about the demographics of your current buyers. From buying habits to income levels, cover every tiny detail. Creating a buyer persona will allow you to target your ideal customers.

3. Survey your current customers.

The easiest way to get to know your customers is to ask them directly. Create surveys to ask your customers the content they like to consume, the social platforms they hang out on most, and the people they love following. You can use websites like SurveyMonkey to create surveys for free. The survey will help you identify your target audience.
