How To Get Your Team To Work Together Part 2

How To Get Your Team To Work Together Part 2
Just because you are on a team doesn't mean you will work well together. Just look at the Bad News Bears. They were awful at the beginning of the movie. They didn't work together. They argued and yelled at each other. It took a lot for them to come together in the end. Don't let your business be like the Bad News Bears. The team starts with you, the owner, so begin to work on being a better team as soon as possible. Here's some more ways to make this happen.

Get the Bad Apples Out

You know what they say about one bad apple and what it does to the bunch. It's true for your business as well. Weeding out the bad employees starts with your hiring process. It's very important to take your time when hiring a new team member. You will not know enough about a potential team member and if they will be a good fit after one or two interviews. It takes many, many interviews to know if someone will work well for your business and your team.

But if someone does slip through the cracks, you need to get them out now, before any more damage can be done. A bad employee can hurt your business financially but can also kill the morale and productivity of your team. Sometimes it takes months to get the morale and productivity back to where it was before the bad employee. Time is of the essence. Please get rid of the bad apple as soon as you find it.

Compliments

Your team members need to know that their supervisor and owner care and think they are doing a good job. Compliments are a great way to accomplish this. It can be very discouraging to work somewhere that doesn't encourage their team members with compliments and you only get "talked to" when you've messed up or done something wrong. But it can be very uplifting when you have done a great job on a project and management lets you know how much they appreciate your hard work and accomplishments.

Have Some Fun

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. I'm not saying that you will find yourself running through a snow-covered maze trying to escape a crazed Jack Nicholson, but taking the time to have some fun with your team will go a long way in boosting the company's morale. Fun at the office is good but getting away from the office with your team for the afternoon could be great! It doesn't have to be some grand, expensive endeavor either. Just an afternoon of bowling can be a great way to build camaraderie with your team and get away from work for a little bit.
