You should be adding quality content to your site on a regular basis. Your content needs to be well-written. Google has been known to lower a website’s ranking due to low quality content. Many websites have a big problem with content. Their pages barely offer any content of significant length or value. If you want Google’s attention, your content is going have to be more informative, helpful and in-depth than your competitors.

Your content also needs to be regular. Once a week? Twice a month? The frequency is up to you, but your customers need to be able to see content on a regular basis and Google will know if your content is sporadic. Plan out adding your content just like you would any other endeavor.

Backlinks
These are huge in Google’s search algorithm and may be the most important factor in the ranking system. A backlink is an incoming link to a webpage. If you think your competitors are out ranking you, it could be because they have more links pointing to their pages than you do.

Don’t fret. There are some simple things you can do to change this by becoming an authority in your business. You can comment on related blogs, guest post on other sites, share infographics, post regularly in forums related to your business, etc. As you become more known as an expert in your business field, you may start to see more sites linking back to your site.

Structure
You may want to improve your on-page SEO. This refers to how you site is structured and how efficiently your site loads into a web browser. The speed at which your website loads is really important in many ways. If your site is slow to load, this could count against your ranking and the user’s patience.

Your website should have great usability. There should never be any broken links or duplicate content. Also, use actual words in your URLs instead of cryptic URLs that contain symbols, numbers or random characters. Any other parts of your site structure that make is easier for search engine spiders to index your pages.
